RCP means Rich Client Platform, ie the ability to build complete application above the Eclipse framework to benefit all the advantages of Eclipse. RCP enables the programmers to develop java client applications without rewriting the framework classes from the begining. It supports faster application development and integration.

RCP applications require only a limited set of pluggins, making it  light weight compared to the usual Eclipse pluggings required to build the IDE pluggings.
